James Frain

James Frain is an English actor, best known for his role as Thomas Cromwell in Seasons One, Two and Three of The Tudors. Frain is well-known for his portrayal of dark or antagonistic characters.

Interestingly, he has played ill-fated characters in two other Tudor-era film/TV series: the 1998 film Elizabeth (as the Spanish Ambassador, Alvaro de la Quadra), and the 2013 TV series The White Queen (as the Earl of Warwick, also known as "the Kingmaker").

Frain is also known for his roles in Tron: Legacy as Jarvis, The Count of Monte Christo as Chief Magistrate Villefort and the HBO series True Blood as the vampire Franklin Mott. He also portrayed criminal mastermind Theo Galavan in the second season of the TV series Gotham and currently plays Sarek (the father of Spock) on the prequel series Star Trek: Discovery.

Personal Life[]

Born in 1968 in Leeds, Frain was raised in Essex, the oldest of eight siblings.  He has been married to American actress and director Marta Cunningham since 2004 and has two children with her.  In his spare time, he is an amateur artist.
