Hampton Court Palace is a large, ornate brick castle in The Tudors built by King Henry's First Minister Cardinal Wolsey and expanded by Henry after Wolsey's demise. Henry used the palace as his secondary residence (after Whitehall Palace) to escape the pressures of court in London, though he often hosted favored courtiers at Hampton Court for extended periods of time. He briefly gifted it to Anne Boleyn at the close of Season One, and the two co-resided in both Hampton Court and Whitehall until Anne's deposition and execution at the end of Season Two. Hampton Court continued to be used by Henry's descendants and is one of the major surviving examples of Tudor architecture.
